A Message from the President
Dear Colleagues,
It’s official: the largest event dedicated to cancer immunotherapy – The Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer’s (SITC) 38th Annual Meeting & Pre-Conference Programs (SITC 2023) – is launched! SITC 2023 is scheduled for Nov. 1–5 in sunny San Diego, CA.
I often think of the astonishing growth of our annual gathering of basic scientists, translational researchers, clinicians, industry and governmental representatives and others in recent years. Last year, we had the largest meeting ever, with over 7,400 professionals in the field attended our Annual Meeting & Pre-Conference Programs and more than 1,500 abstract submissions, all reflecting the exciting science and research happening in immuno-oncology.
While we will be in a new location, the core of SITC 2023 will encompass what we all know and love – advancing science, discovering immuno-oncology breakthroughs and educating the world on cancer immunotherapy. There will, as always, be a multitude of new and exciting sessions as well.
I am especially eager to attend Concurrent Session 106c: Immunoprevention of Cancer on Nov. 3, co-chaired by Philip Castle, MD, MPH – National Cancer Institute and Catherine Wu, MD – Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Here, the co-chairs and presenters will discuss immunobiology, primary and secondary prevention, targeting high-risk populations, pragmatic considerations for developing immunoprevention strategies, and more. Additionally, session 208b: Diversity in Patient Populations co-chaired by Roshan Bastani, PhD – University of California, Los Angeles and Kavita Dhodapkar, MD, MBBS – Emory University, taking place Nov. 4 will explore disparities in cancer care as well as emerging insights into the impact of aging and racial/ethnic background on the immune system and the cancer microenvironment.
Something to look forward to every year is the Richard V. Smalley Memorial Award and Lectureship, honoring the 2023 recipient Robert D. Schreiber, PhD, FAIO – Washington University School of Medicine. Additionally, the Keynote Address is not to be missed. We are excited to hear Susan Kaech, PhD – Salk Institute, deliver the keynote lecture on “Stressing Out the Immune System in Cancer.”
These sessions are really just the tip of the iceberg with a host of other exciting topics to dive into at SITC 2023. Both registration and abstract submissions are open, and I encourage you to discover more about this year’s program by exploring the meeting website. Also, I would like to remind you all that SITC members receive discounted SITC 2023 registration rates. This is just one of the many reasons to become a SITC member. Don’t wait! Join SITC today to save on your SITC 2023 registration.
Sincerely,
Leisha A. Emens, MD, PhD
