A Message from the President

Dear Colleagues,

It’s a time for reflection as we find ourselves entering the last few weeks of summer. Here at SITC, we are wrapping up a busy month. To kick off August, the Women in Cancer Immunotherapy Network (WIN) Leadership Institute took place in Seattle, WA. Championed by former SITC president, Dr. Lisa Butterfield, the program gives prominence to the contributions women have made and continue to make in cancer immunotherapy and tumor immunology research. I heard from many what an inspiring two days it was and enjoyed seeing photos on social media.

SITC leadership convened in Napa Valley a couple weeks ago for the strategic retreat. It was refreshing to see many of my colleagues in person as we looked to the future of SITC. This meeting provided the opportunity to review many project proposals from SITC members and committees. In addition to the quality proposals reviewed, leadership generated valuable discussion, themes and ideas for future society programming.

Additionally, the Crisis in Clinical Research Virtual Summit was held last week leaving participants feeling hopeful about the future landscape of clinical trials. A whitepaper detailing the issues discussed, potential solutions realized and plans for action will be made available in the near future. This summit is just the first step in trying to solve this critical issue. Thank you to the summit organizers and leaders who helped bring this imperative conversation to fruition.

Now on to this month’s Fireside Chat guest, a scientist who is quite familiar with clinical trials conducting many himself for his work with in situ therapeutic vaccination. Dr. Ronald Levy of Stanford University (who was part of the inaugural class of FAIO) joins me in discussing his career, his work with monoclonal antibodies and the study of malignant lymphoma and more.

Apply to Attend the SITC Clinical Immuno-Oncology Network (SCION)

SITC Clinical Immuno-Oncology Network


SCION is an intimate immunotherapy clinical trial development program taking place Jan. 17–21, 2023, in Austin, TX. The workshop connects participants with experienced faculty in the field who are equipped to help participants navigate through the unique considerations for designing clinical trial protocols.

This year, SITC will award one attendee the Dr. Martin “Mac” Cheever Excellence in Clinical Trial Design Travel Award. One awardee will be selected from the SCION participants for developing the most simple and elegant protocol. The awardee will receive travel reimbursement to the SITC 38th Annual Meeting & Pre-Conference Programs (SITC 2023).

JITC Peer Review Mentorship Program 

Interested in a mentorship opportunity? The Journal for ImmunoTherapy of Cancer (JITC) is launching a Peer Review Mentorship Program. Early career professionals with limited or no peer reviewing experience are encouraged to apply to be mentees. Applications for mentees are being collected through Sept. 14.


Nonmelanoma Skin Cancer Clinical Practice Guideline Now Available!

The society’s first clinical practice guideline (CPG) focusing on immunotherapy for the treatment of nonmelanoma skin cancer (NMSC) is now available. Read the manuscript in the Journal for ImmunoTherapy of Cancer (JITC), the society’s open access, peer-reviewed online journal. You can also access the guideline in SITC’s CPG Mobile App.

For clinicians seeking to deepen their understanding of the optimal management of using immunotherapy, SITC will host free, live webinars in the coming months.
