Urba, MD, PhD - Earle A. Chiles Research InstituteProgram SummaryThis session at the 29th Annual Meeting on November 8, 2014 in National Harbor, MD covered the current status and future outlook of cancer vaccines. A better understanding of immune activation, immune memory and immune inhibition is key for the development of more powerful vaccines. Correlates of protection must be considered systematically, particularly for the design of Biomarker studies. Major questions include: choice and form of antigen, innate immune stimulators and adjuvants, and the mode and schedule of vaccination. Prime/boost approaches was discussed, particularly with regard to priming, amplification, maintenance and functional maturation of T-cell responses. Finally, future therapeutic successes will depend on the identification of optimal vaccine strategies as part of comprehensive combination therapies with strong impact on the tumor microenvironment. About the SITC 29th Annual MeetingThe SITC 29th Annual Meeting provided a multidisciplinary educational and interactive environment focused on improving outcomes for current and future patients with cancer by incorporating strategies based on basic and applied cancer immunotherapy. The meeting consisted of cutting-edge research presentations by experts in the field, oral and poster abstract presentations, and ample opportunities for structured and informal discussions, including important networking opportunities. In addition, the meeting included updates on major national and international initiatives coming from academia, government and industry, as well as important society projects. #Biomarkers #ClinicalTrials #BreastCancers #Leukemia #Melanoma #RenalCellCarcinoma #OvarianCancer #PresentationSlides #Video #AnnualMeeting #SITC #Vaccines #Clinician #Industry #Oncologist #Researcher #2014
