JITC Peer Review Mentorship Program

Coming Soon: Stay tuned for the upcoming application window to apply to be a mentee in the 2026 program!

Each year, early career professionals with limited peer reviewing experience are encouraged to apply to be a mentee in JITC's Peer Review Mentorship Program. A limited number of successful applicants are paired with senior leaders who help provide structural guidance on peer review to young researchers, either one-on-one or in small groups.

Mentees who complete the program will:

  • Learn how to identify key components of manuscripts and provide thorough, critical evaluations
  • Improve their writing skills that will strengthen their own future manuscripts
  • Establish personal and professional relationships through networking opportunities

Applications for the 2026 class will be collected at a later date. Check back for more details or contact jitceditor@sitcancer.org to request an alert when the application portal opens.

The Peer Review Mentorship Program is led by JITC Deputy Editor-in-Chief Sjoerd H. van der Burg, PhD, and the Mentorship Program Working Group of Margaret E. Gatti-Mays, MD, MPH; Sebastian Kobold, MD; and Claire I. Vanpouille-Box, PhD.

JITC welcomes applications from interested individuals who would like to take advantage of the many benefits of serving as a JITC manuscript reviewer.

Reviewers gain increased exposure with key leaders in the field and stay up to date on the latest research. Additional benefits include:

  • A 10% APC discount for papers from first and last authors who have served as active reviewers within the past 12 months
  • Continuing medical education (CME) credit
  • Automated ORCiD accreditation for reviewer activity*
  • Inclusion in JITC's annual list of reviewers
  • Credit toward SITC's Path to Leadership for reviewing several times within a year (greater chance to be considered for committee roles and leadership)
  • Reviewer certificates (upon request)

JITC also cooperates with other reviewer recognition services (such as Publons) to confirm participation without compromising reviewer anonymity or journal peer review processes, giving reviewers the ability to safely share their involvement in the journal.
