Clinical Implications of New Findings on the Immunogenic Effects of Radiation

When:  Sep 24, 2017 from 16:45 to 18:15 (PT)

Presented by the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO), in collaboration with the Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer

The Primer on Tumor Immunology for Radiation Oncologists is part of the 2017 ASTRO Annual Meeting on

September 24 – 27, 2017.

Clinical Implications of New Findings on the Immunogenic Effects of Radiation

Participants at this session will learn about recent research evidence about the most effective combinations of immunotherapeutic agents and radiation, including the rationale for combining specific regimens of radiation therapy with immunotherapy. Various factors will be considered that affect the selection, dosage and sequencing of radiation and immunotherapy when selecting treatment options, to guide clinical decision making. Attendees will hear about the management of immune-related adverse events within the context of selecting treatment options for patients experiencing adverse events. Attendees will be prepared to apply this knowledge in analyzing and choosing treatment combinations and radiation regimens for various disease states.

This session is included in registration for the 2017 ASTRO Annual Meeting. Learn more and register for the program HERE.

Educational Objectives

Upon completion of this live activity, attendees should be able to do the following:

  • Analyze the current evidence on the efficacy, safety, and patient selection for radiation combined with immunotherapy, to assist in clinical decision-making
  • Demonstrate the ability to consider various factors that affect the selection, dosage, and ordering of radiation and immunotherapy when selecting treatment options
  • Apply current research findings to clinical decisions on treatment options, to optimize the synergy between radiation and immunotherapy
