A Message from the President

While we weren’t sure exactly what this year would bring, one thing has been crystal clear — the future of cancer immunotherapy is bright, and it’s being shaped by the next generation of innovators. We’ve welcomed a surge of student members to the Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer (SITC) this year. In fact, student membership is up 20% compared to this time last year. The momentum is real and I’m so proud that SITC is a growing home for the next generation of the field. It’s not too late to join the SITC family and take advantage of member benefits this year!

One of the most exciting opportunities now open for early career investigators is SITC’s Sparkathon program. This impactful initiative unites promising scientists in cancer immunotherapy with established leaders, creating a unique environment for scientific exchange, collaboration and leadership development. The upcoming Sparkathon Class of 2026 will focus on the topic “Next-generation Cellular Therapies, T cell Engagers, and Combinations.” For those dedicated to advancing the field, Sparkathon is an experience that can help shape both your science and your career.

Beyond Sparkathon, SITC offers a rich array of programming to help young investigators thrive. Our Early Career Scientist Committee curates opportunities each year at our Annual Meeting. This year at the 40th Anniversary Annual Meeting & Pre-Conference Programs, early career attendees can expect to connect with established experts in networking and mentorship sessions, gain valuable insights into grant writing and career development and lay a strong scientific foundation through the Primer on Tumor Immunology and Cancer Immunotherapy™. The meeting will also be a time to celebrate achievement, as we recognize deserving early scientists through travel awards and fellowships during special ceremonies.

Watching early career investigators grow into leaders is one of SITC’s greatest privileges and it happens because of dedicated mentors, collaborators and advocates who share their knowledge and open doors. Whether you are just starting out or guiding the next generation, SITC provides programs and connections to support your role in shaping the breakthroughs of tomorrow.
