A Message from the President

Before we toast the start of 2024 together, let’s take a moment to celebrate all that our community achieved by reading the society’s 2023 Year in Review. While in San Diego for the SITC 2023 Annual Meeting & Pre-Conference Programs, SITC announced a goal to reach 100 new IO approvals in the next decade. As you enjoy the SITC 2023 Year in Review, you’ll be struck by the breadth and depth of our programming. I have no doubt that you will join me in doubling down on our commitment to reach that lofty goal.

From our first Spring Scientific to the record-setting Annual Meeting, I’m confident this trip down memory lane will be an inspiration to all of us as we start the new year. Last year was highly successful, and I'm very much looking forward to the great opportunities before us in 2024.

As the society launches into 2024, I hope you’ll join SITC or renew your membership for 2024 so you can be part of our incredible vision. I’m most enthusiastic to be part of the groundbreaking AI & IO webinar series beginning in April, a collaborative webinar series on glyco-immunology with the Society for Glycobiology, and a State of the Art Drug Development program in the fall. The icing on the cake for SITC membership includes discounts on article processing charges for the Journal for ImmunoTherapy of Cancer (JITC) as well as SITC’s education programs - including the Annual Meeting and Pre-Conference Programs.  Mark your calendars now to join us in Houston, TX for the 39th Annual Meeting and Pre-Conference Programs Nov. 6–10, 2024. SITC members enjoy early meeting and housing registration benefits, so don’t delay in joining or renewing your SITC membership.

I'm also excited to plug one of our first programs this year: the SITC Spring Scientific: Metabolism at the Hub of Cancer and Immunity. This program will explore the evolving immunometabolism field and the critical connections to cancer immunology, most notably through studies of immune cell, cancer cell, and microbiome metabolism. Hongbo Chi, PhD – St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, will deliver the keynote address Functional Genomics and Systems Immunology in Mapping the Metabolic Basis of Cancer Immunity. With over 90 abstracts submitted, this meeting promises to present the latest groundbreaking research available. Program organizers Greg M. Delgoffe, PhD – University of Pittsburgh, Jennifer Guerriero, PhD – Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Jennifer Wargo, MD, MMSc – The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, deserve a hearty thank you for their time and dedication to the program.

I would also like to congratulate the slate of new volunteers who are starting committee terms with SITC. Without volunteers, SITC’s programs and outputs would simply not be possible. The initiatives and themes for this year (more on this next month) are truly trailblazing....and I can’t wait to experience the strides we will make together as we continue to advance I/O for the benefit of patients.
