A Message from the President

We are less than two months away from the largest event dedicated to cancer immunotherapy – The Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer’s (SITC) 38th Annual Meeting & Pre-Conference Programs (SITC 2023). SITC 2023 is scheduled for Nov. 1–5, and we look forward to welcoming our community to San Diego, CA! It’s with much anticipation that we come together and hear from the more than 1,500 Regular, Young Investigator Award and Late-Breaking Abstract presenters. Just think of all the new research, science and discoveries! We hope to see you there – are you registered yet?

Two anticipated highlights are the Richard V. Smalley Memorial Award and Lectureship and the Keynote Address. The former will honor the 2023 recipient Robert D. Schreiber, PhD, FAIO – Washington University School of Medicine. He will deliver a lecture on “Cancer Immunoediting: Targets, Mechanisms and Implications for Immunotherapy.” For the latter, we will hear from Susan Kaech, PhD – Salk Institute – as she delivers the keynote lecture on “Stressing Out the Immune System in Cancer.”

Additionally, SITC is thrilled to offer the URG Undergrads in STEM Program on Saturday, Nov. 4. If you know of undergraduates in the San Diego area, be sure to share this unique opportunity with them! This is a free, one-day program that encourages networking and cancer immunotherapy education. Learn more details here.

I would also like to take a minute to honor Hispanic Heritage Month, which takes place annually September 15–October 15, and celebrates the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. In conjunction with this special month, SITC is pleased to release a new listening session in the near future featuring society leaders who share personal and professional reflections as Hispanic and LatinX Americans working in science and medicine in the United States. I look forward to welcoming you in San Diego!
