A Message from the President

Dear Colleagues,

It’s a cause for celebration! The Journal for ImmunoTherapy of Cancer (JITC) – the Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer’s (SITC) official journal – is celebrating its 10th anniversary.

In 2013, JITC was first introduced with an editorial that stated, “The field of cancer immunology and immunotherapy is experiencing a tremendous increase in excitement with the advances in the immune checkpoint blockade therapy.” Fast forward to present day and JITC is in its tenth year of publication and touts a 13.751 Impact Factor.

For this month’s Fireside Chat, I sat down with a number of familiar faces involved with JITC, including: the founding and current JITC Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Pedro J. Romero, JITC Deputy Editor-in-Chief Dr. James Gulley, Past SITC President Dr. Lisa Butterfield and JITC Managing Editor Ms. Andrea Kunz. We look back on the start of the journal, discuss the effect that the Impact Factor has had on the publication, highlight publication trends and more.

The vision of JITC at its inception was to create an open access, peer-reviewed journal of high-quality original research, literature reviews, and position papers on all aspects of tumor immunology and cancer immunotherapy – from basic research to clinical application – and it has done just that and more. I hope you join me in celebrating JITC’s 10 year anniversary. Thank you again to my guests this month – I sincerely enjoyed our conversation and can’t wait to see what else is in store for JITC.

Sincerely,

Patrick Hwu, MD
SITC President
