MILWAUKEE – The Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer (SITC) has developed the first-of-its-kind five-day, in-depth cancer immunotherapy educational program in Mesa, Ariz. on Feb. 18-22, 2019.

The SITC Cancer Immunotherapy Winter School will feature leading experts in the field who will provide attendees with a deep understanding of the core principles and clinical applications of tumor immunology and cancer immunotherapy.

“The future success of cancer immunotherapy research relies on the contributions of the early career scientists and clinicians of today,” said SITC President and SITC Cancer Immunotherapy Winter School co-organizer Lisa H. Butterfield, PhD. “SITC is committed to the education and career development of the next generation of leaders who will uncover the next scientific breakthroughs. SITC’s new Cancer Immunotherapy Winter School is another way SITC will influence the future of the field to improve cancer patient outcomes through immunotherapy.”

The SITC Cancer Immunotherapy Winter School will first focus on providing the fundamentals of tumor immunology. Participants can then tailor their educational experience to their individual needs by choosing either a research or clinical focused learning track. Curriculum topics include clinical trial design and data analysis for combination therapies, biomarker technology, clinical translation, and grant writing tips to obtain research funding.

“This is a terrific opportunity for researchers and clinicians, new to the field, to not only deepen their understanding cancer immunotherapy, but to also forge new relationships with colleagues from around the world,” said Leisha A. Emens, MD, PhD, SITC Cancer Immunotherapy Winter School Co-Organizer. “Collaboration is a critical component to achieving scientific progress, and this program will seek to lay the foundation for new professional relationships that could blossom into cross-institutional teams in the future.”

The SITC Cancer Immunotherapy Winter School will take place on Feb. 18-22, 2019 at the Delta Hotels Phoenix Mesa, 200 North Centennial Way, in Mesa, Ariz. Registration rates and additional program information is available on SITC Cancer Immunotherapy CONNECT, the society’s official website.
