Andrea Kunz is the Managing Editor for the Journal for ImmunoTherapy of Cancer (JITC), the official journal of the Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer (SITC). Serving in this role since 2016, she acts as a key advisor on journal policies and practices, working with the Editorial Board on matters such as the development of new journal features, adherence to publishing ethics, and the response to changes both in the publishing market and in the cancer immunotherapy specialty. She has had the privilege to work with an inspirational team of editors and colleagues to carry out the vision and culture of the journal. Among other efforts, she helped JITC receive its first impact factor in 2018, led the journal through a formal publisher search and transfer process, and recently managed the successful transition of editorial leadership. To support her role for SITC’s journal, she is actively involved in the Council of Science Editors (CSE), serving as a regular presenter and leading the development of several core educational courses for publishing professionals as CSE Short Course Committee Co-Chair. She also completed the CSE Publication Certificate Program, culminating in the presentation of a three-year study she led with JITC entitled “An Analysis of Reviewer Recruitment Efforts Using Volunteer Applications: A Case Study from a Society Journal’s Perspective” at CSE’s 2023 Annual Meeting in Toronto. She is also a member of the Society for Scholarly Publishing.
Prior to transitioning to her editorial role in 2016, she served SITC for three years overseeing the development and implementation of educational activities. She was also previously recognized as a Milwaukee Business Journal 40 under 40 award recipient in 2010 for her role as Executive Director of The Wisconsin Philharmonic (formerly Waukesha Symphony Orchestra).
She lives in the Iowa City, Iowa area with her husband, Aaron, and enjoys cooking, crafting, singing, and supporting local nonprofit and arts organizations in her free time.
