Immunotherapy for the Treatment of Lung Cancer - A Patient Resource Guide

11-22-2019 17:07

Immunotherapy was approved in 2015 to treat advanced lung cancer. It is very different from other types of cancer treatment because it uses the body's own immune system to recognize and attack cancer cells that have been hiding and targets them for destruction. Immunotherapy is a systemic treatment, which means the drugs travel through your bloodstream to all parts of your body to kill cancer cells or keep them from dividing. This guide, published by Patient Resource Publishing in partnership with the Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer (SITC), explains lung cancer, the immune system, immunotherapy and ways to help manage your treatment. This resource also lists ongoing lung cancer immunotherapy clinical trials (as of March 2019).
