SITC released a new expert panel featuring female SITC leaders, which explores experiences in their scientific and medical research careers. With 400 views to date, the conversation aims to highlight unique challenges facing women professionals in the field and promote and enhance diversity in clinical and biomedical research. For the third time, SITC hosted an interactive, day-long workshop for underrepresented group undergraduates in STEM. The program was held in conjunction with the Annual Meeting, and students had the opportunity to hear from leaders in the field, meet with mentors from various backgrounds and network with other students interested in science and medicine. SITC welcomed 45 students in the Houston area for the in-person program.
With support from the society’s Forward Fund, the SITC Board of Directors offered two DEI-focused Fellowships to support the development of URG early career scientists in the field:
2024 SITC Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Fellowship
One-year, $100,000 fellowship
Recipient: Victor Arrieta, MD, PhD
2024 SITC-MRA Women in Melanoma Fellowship
Two-year, $200,000 fellowship
Recipient: Arielle Elkrief, MD
In addition to the two fellowships, SITC offered over 15 travel awards for individuals from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups in the biomedical sciences field.
The Society continued to prioritize eliminating barriers to SITC education for scientists and researchers in low and lower-middle income economies. With complimentary membership and registration to all SITC educational content, including the 39th Annual Meeting & Pre-Conference Programs, SITC education is reaching all corners of the globe.
