A Message from the President

Dear Colleagues,

Happy spring! This is always an exciting time of year for the Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer (SITC), as we prepare for the upcoming society election and continue through the fellowship and award season. SITC is currently accepting nominations for the second class of the Academy of Immuno-Oncology. If you haven’t already, you can nominate and pay tribute to someone who has revolutionized the field of immunotherapy and immuno-oncology. Nominations are being accepted through March 31, 2022.

Among the revolutionary leaders is this month’s Fireside Chat guest, Dr. Carl June, Richard W. Vague Professor in Immunotherapy at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. June spoke with me about his illustrious career, recounting the amazing contributions he has made to the field of immunology. In addition, two things that might surprise you about Dr. June: he attended and graduated from the Naval Academy and he has a passion for extreme sports. I won’t spoil the rest of our conversation. You can listen to the entire chat on SITC’s YouTube channel.

Thanks again to Dr. June for joining this month’s Fireside Chat. I look forward to seeing him this November at the 37th Annual Meeting and Pre-Conference Programs where he will honor another influential immunologist and this year’s Richard V. Smalley Awardee, Dr. Zelig Eshhar. Until then, thank you for tuning in and I hope you enjoy the start of spring.

Sincerely,

Patrick Hwu, MD
SITC President
