SITC Session at ASTRO Annual Meeting

When:  Sep 17, 2019 from 13:00 to 14:15 (CT)

Immunotherapies in Combination with Radiation Therapy: Optimal Study

This workshop was developed in collaboration between ASTRO and Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer (SITC). The workshop will provide examples of different settings and study design to test currently available commercial immunotherapies combined with radiation therapy. The session will be limited to immunotherapies in clinical use and we will not discuss experimental drugs or mechanisms. We will first provide a brief introduction on the diversity of the mechanisms of resistance to current ICB. Three examples of original ongoing clinical trials will be presented, on the neoadjuvant, adjuvant and selected metastatic setting. This session will be especially useful for community and academic clinicians interested in designing novel clinical trials.

Learning Objectives:

  • Appreciate the diversity of the mechanisms of immune resistance ad evasion in cancer
  • Recognize the variety of opportunities associated with distinct clinical settings to test the combination of RT and ICB
  • Learn about example of currently ongoing trials of radiation combined with ICB

Presentations:

  • 1:00 PM - 1:15 PM
Introduction about different mechanisms of resistance to ICB
Speaker: Sandra Demaria, MD – Weill Cornell Medical College
  • 1:30 PM - 1:45 PM
Example of ongoing trial in the definitive setting: Combining radiation and checkpoint inhibitors for bladder cancer
Speaker: Manisha Palta, MD – Duke Cancer Institute
  • 2:00 PM - 2:15 PM
Example of ongoing trial in met setting: Pembrolizumab and stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) of selected brain metastases in breast cancer patients
