Presented by the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO), in collaboration with the Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer
The Primer on Tumor Immunology for Radiation Oncologists is part of the 2017 ASTRO Annual Meeting on
September 24 – 27, 2017.
Primer on Tumor Immunology for Radiation Oncologists
Participants at this session will learn how radiation affects the immune system, including the effect of dose fractionation and timing on immune activation. The rationale for combining specific regimens of radiation therapy with immunotherapy, as well as the barriers that may need to be overcome for radiotherapy use as an adjuvant to immunotherapy treatment, will be presented. Attendees will gain an understanding of the mechanisms of action of combinations of immunotherapeutic agents and radiation, which will provide a basis for treatment decisions in the clinic.
This session is included in registration for the 2017 ASTRO Annual Meeting. Learn more and register for the program HERE.
Educational Objectives
Upon completion of this live activity, attendees should be able to do the following:
- Describe the effects of radiation on stimulation and suppression of the immune system
- Predict the efficacy of combinations of radiation and immunotherapeutic agents based on their mechanisms of action
