William Osler Health System Cancer Immunotherapy Program

10-21-2020 12:53

Immunotherapy is a newer type of treatment which uses one's own immune system to recognize and fight cancer. The most common type of immunotherapy occurs with immune checkpoint inhibitors (key regulators of the immune system) and has recently provided major advances in the care and treatment of cancer patients.

William Osler Health System (Osler) has established a first-of-its-kind cancer Immunotherapy Program in Canada, where all patients starting immunotherapy receive comprehensive education and proactive care. The Program is led by world renowned expert, Dr. Parneet Cheema, a medical oncologist with extensive experience in cancer immunotherapy treatment.

As a part of Osler’s Immunotherapy Program, a toolkit with numerous resources, videos, and guides have been developed to support health care professionals, patients and their caregivers. This toolkit helps them to understand, recognize, and manage side effects and help patients effectively communicate with their health care team in a timely manner.
