Barbara Ma, MD, MS

Barbara Ma, MD, MS is currently a third-year hematology and oncology fellow at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York, NY, where she also serves as chief fellow. She completed her bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering and master’s degree in biotechnology at Johns Hopkins University before obtaining her medical degree from New York Medical College in Valhalla, NY. 

She completed her internal medicine residency at Georgetown University where she first developed her interest in optimizing immunotherapies under the mentorship of Dr Michael Atkins. As a fellow, Dr Ma is engaged in translational research in the laboratory of Dr Niroshana Anandasabapathy focusing on immunotherapy-related toxicities. Dr Ma has special interests in cutaneous and thoracic malignancies. Her vision is to identify mechanisms driving immune-related adverse events in order to predict which patients develop them, guide personalized interventions to mitigate toxicity, and direct efforts to develop drugs that may uncouple toxicity from efficacy.
