Incorporating Radiation Oncology Into Immunotherapy

Starts:  Jun 15, 2017 00:00 (ET)
Ends:  Jun 16, 2017 00:00 (ET)

As a result of this collaboration, a paper was published in the Journal of ImmunoTherapy of Cancer entitled, "Incorporating Radiation Oncology into Immunotherapy: proceedings from the ASTRO-SITC-NCI immunotherapy workshop" and can be accessed HERE.

This event has already taken place.

Presented by the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) in collaboration with National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer

This two-day workshop addressed emerging themes in immunotherapy and radiation therapy including delivery of radiation therapy in conjunction with immunotherapy; oligometastatic state and immunotherapy/radiation therapy approaches; rational combinations of immunotherapy and radiation therapy; and several frontier topics such as mutational burden, gut microbiome, metabolism, and bioinformatics.

With the current immunotherapy surge and potential for identifying and finding novel solutions to overcome immune suppressive barriers, the focus on how to best combine radiotherapy and immunotherapy has never been more timely and important.

This Workshop covered many of the questions surrounding this promising new approach, including:

  • What are the best radiation doses, volume and fractionation schedules that synergize with immunotherapy?
  • What burden of disease is best targeted with radiotherapy and immunotherapy?
  • What predictive biomarkers exist, and which are valuable?
  • What combination and sequencing of immunotherapy with radiation would be best for clinical trials?
